Tranches
Lisa Flores, Allrise Gallery, 2007 :
«Tranches (Edges) is masterful in production and is Lapointe’s most tenured body of work. These large format photo "objects" represent cover spines of wax records from the artist's own collection. The subject matter is sometimes deceiving, unless the viewer is familiar to the world of records. Edges explores a music lover's obsession with collecting, illustrating the trophy-like quality records can possess. The prints are approximately 5 feet high and mere inches wide, mounted on wood of the same proportion with an epoxy finish. Lapointe played with various combinations and each piece can stand on it's own or be grouped with others. Color from the back of each piece reflects onto white walls creating a cerebral sense of pleasure akin to listening to your favorite music or finally finding that rare record. While some of the covers photographed are worn down, the actual art object is slick with epoxy shine, reminding us of virtue of the wax record when it is in mint condition.»
